I started making some of my own clothes when I was a teenager inspired by my mom and my two grandmas. The three of them shared with me the value of wearing clothes with meaning and the importance of caring about them.
Although I enjoy making clothes from scratch, I also have lots of fun upcycling and reworking clothing from my parents, friends and other items I find at second-hand shops. This shop is a melting pot of my creations. You’ll find a bit of everything. I never plan my designs. I like to let chance to surprise me. This allows me to take each design as a unique entity with a message of its own.
One of the things that I like the most when I travel is to collect vintage finds and scraps of fabric which I keep for future creations. With this little shop, I want to share some of my designs as well as my ancestors’ wisdom on sustainability, creativity and self- expression represented by the clothes we wear and what they mean to us.
This shop embodies the spirit of my old blog earthtoiris.
In 2013, I launched the blog earthtoiris as the platform where to share the creative communities I was discovering in Asia. I was frustrated with the negative tone of most of the information we were able to find in English about Asia’s creativity at the time. The Western world seemed determined to make us believe that the only legitimate form of creativity and innovation was to be found in the global North. My experience living in Asia since 2006 showed me how wrong that approach was. This is how I created earthtoiris as one of the very first English language platforms that explored fashion, art, lifestyle and culture from Asia. Always fond of my roots, I also dedicated an entire section to projects from Barcelona and the Mediterranean. My beautiful mom, Carmen, became earthtoiris’ ‘bureau chief’ in Barcelona. Earthtoiris allowed us to take our ‘mother and daughter’ conversations about fashion one step further and it helped us cope with the geographical distance.
Overtime, some of the content from earthtoiris attracted the attention of other creative platforms in Asia, which let to some content syndication agreements.
This is how I ended up running around from event to event and shop to shop taking photographs and writing stories about some of the most interesting editions of the China Fashion Week in Beijing, Seoul Fashion Week and Hong Kong Fashion Week. I was lucky to get to cover these events a few years before they finally attracted the attention of the International - mainstream media.
I’ve been busy with a lot of projects in the last few years and earthtoiris has not been updated for a while. Nonetheless, I invite you to have a look and explore some of the creative souls I had the privilege to discover during my decade long life in Asia. Read earthtoiris blog.
Unfortunately, I am unable to accept orders from the shop for a short period of time. Keep coming back or email me if you want me to keep you on the loop.
