Planner: Photopills Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse World Meet Up

For the first time in Tenerife, photopillers and night sky photography lovers in the island got together to celebrate Photopills World Meet Up to capture the full moon and the lunar eclipse on Sunday 7th September 2025.
I was very happy to be the planner of this event in Santa Cruz de Tenerife where we got together in community to capture the full moon and joining the photopills community across the globe with more than 1200 photographers in 13 countries gathered to shoot the full moon and lunar eclipse together.
We expected the full moon to rise and slowly position itself next to the bell tower of Iglesia de la Concepción, during golden hour and with very nice light conditions. However, the ‘calima’ and thick haze didn’t let us see the moon until much later when it was higher in the sky and further away from the building. We adapted and came up with different ways to capture the full moon at the very end of the lunar eclipse next to the surrounding architecture.
Iglesia de la Concepción is a very iconic shooting location. The bell tower stands out in the architecture of Tenerife’s capital and it’s a landmark in itself with a lot of history. The church Iglesia de la Concepción was built in the year 1500 and it houses ‘ La Cruz de la Conquista’ (Cross of Conquest). This cross was disembarked by Spanish boats when they conquered Tenerife, in 1494, marking the end of the aboriginal civilizations of the island.

Por primera vez en Tenerife, photopillers y amantes de la fotografía nocturna en la isla nos reunimos para celebrar el Photopills World Meet Up para capturar la luna llena y el eclipse lunar del domingo 7 de septiembre 2025.
Estoy muy agradecida de haber sido la ‘planner’ para este evento en Santa Cruz de Tenerife, dónde nos juntamos en comunidad para capturar la luna llena y uniendo esfuerzos con la comunidad Photopills en todo el mundo, con más de 1200 fotografos en 13 países sumándose para capturar la luna llena y el eclipse lunar.
Nuestro plan inicial era que la luna saliera y se fuera posicionando poco a poco junto al campanario de la Iglesia de la Concepción, durante la hora dorada y con muy buenas condiciones de luz. Sin embargo, la ‘calima’ no nos dejó ver la luna hasta más tarde de lo previsto, cuando ya estaba más arriba en el cielo y alejada del edificio. Nos adaptamos y capturamos la luna casi al final del eclipse acompañada de la arquitectura que la rodeaba.
La Iglesa de la concepción es un lugar de disparo muy icónico: el campanario destaca en la arquitectura de la capital tinerfeña y es un símbolo histórico en sí mismo. La Iglesia de la Concepción fue construida en el año 1500 y alberga la Cruz de la Conquista. Esta cruz fue desembarcada por los barcos españoles cuando conquistaron Tenerife en 1494, marcando el fin de las civilizaciones aborígenes de la isla.
